Reshoring the Solar PV Industry: A Strategic European Challenge

The solar PV industry has been largely delocalized in the last 15 years. Tides are turning and major trends are reshaping the Solar PV Industry, leading to a reshoring of the European industry.

  • Consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability in their purchasing decisions. Thus, the "Made in Europe" label for solar PV modules emerges not only as a mark of quality but also as a symbol of contributing to a greener future, propelling demand for these products to new heights.

  • The Net zero CO2 objectives imply massive electrification of the whole economy from transportation, heating to industry. The electricity mix needs to be as decarbonized as possible and , in that context, Solar PV plays a critical role. Market projections indicate a 200 % growth of solar PV over the decade, reaching 100 GW in 2030.

  • The Net-Zero Industry Act is an initiative stemming from the Green Deal Industrial Plan which aims to scale up the manufacturing of clean technologies in the European Union. Adopted in 2024, it is designed to help Europe manufacture 40% of its annual deployment needs of strategic technology products, including PV modules, batteries and heat pumps.
